Making a white sauce • You will be learning how to make a basic white sauce that you can use to make many foods such as cream soup, soufflé', sauce for vegetables and casseroles. • Be careful and follow all directions on this macaroni and cheese recipe. • White sauce is tricky and you are adding cheese which is tricky also. • After your kitchen is clean… while your mac and cheese is cooking, go through your note taking guide and fill it out using the FAT ppt that I put on each table.
Classic Baked Macaroni and Cheese Ingredients1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni noodles3 tablespoons butter3 tablespoons flour1 cup milk1/2 cup cream1/2 teaspoon saltfresh ground black pepper, to taste1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese1/2 cup buttered breadcrumbs (optional)
DirectionsPreheat oven to 400°F.Cook and drain macaroni noodles: set aside.In a large saucepan melt butter.Add flour mixed with salt and pepper, using a whisk to stir until well blended. Pour milk and cream in gradually; stirring constantly.Bring to boiling point and boil 2 minutes (stirring constantly).Remove from heat. Add shredded cheddar little by little stirring constantly until cheese melts. Add macaroni to the saucepan and toss to coat with the cheese sauce.Transfer macaroni to a buttered baking dish.Sprinkle with breadcrumbs(optional) Bake 20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
