THEMIS. Mission Concept. THEMIS and GOES – 7 satellites with 1, 2, and 4 sidereal day orbits. Every 4 sidereal days, all 7 are in “apogee conjunction”. Every apogee conjunction occurs over central Canada. At apogee conjunction, the constellation brackets the CD and NENL regions.

THEMIS Our Role • Assist in design of all aspects of the GBOs (Greffen) • Lead development of ASI control software (Jackel) • Lead development of GBO telemetry & control (Jackel) • Develop data recovery system (Jackel) • Deploy 16 GBOs (Greffen) • Operate 16 GBOs (Greffen) • Real-Time (RT) data retrieval from 16 GBOs (Jackel) • Develop & maintain THEMIS-C website (Spanswick) • Develop scientific data products that are visually appealing (Syrjäsuo) • Integrate RT data into summary & housekeeping web displays (Jackel) • Maintain online archive of entire image data set (Jackel) • Ensure flow through of UCLA magnetometer data (Jackel) • Foster synergy with other Canadian programs • Science (Substorms, Aurora, Machine Vision, ULF Pulsation, etc….)
