Eligibility Requirements • OHT has 66% of enrolled students receiving free or reduced lunch. • Amount qualifies OHT to receive funding. • Every child at OHT is eligible to receive Title One Services. • OHT Elementary is classified as a Title One School.
What is Title One? • Northside ISD participates in the Federal Title I Program which provides federal money for programs “to meet the special educational needs of children in school attendance areas with a high concentration of children from low-income families and for children in institutions for neglected children”. • Programs such as pre-kindergarten, accelerated reading and math programs, tutoring, staff development, and family math and literacy nights are funded through title one.
Title One School Wide Components • Comprehensive Needs Assessment • School wide strategies to increase quality and amount of academics received. • Highly qualified teachers and substitutes. • Ongoing professional development. • Policies to attract highly qualified teachers. • Strategies to increase parental involvement. • Plans to assist preschool children transition. • Measures to include teachers in decision making. • Provide additional activities for assistance of struggling students. • Coordination and integration of Federal, State and Local Services and programs.
What should I expect to see? • Parent Involvement Policy sent home each year. • Parent notification of teacher qualifications. • Parent/Teacher/Student Compact Reviewed. • Notification of Yearly Title One Informational Meeting.
How has OHT used the extra funding? • Additional materials and supplies (computers, phonics programs, math & reading programs, software, math manipulatives, professional reading materials, classroom books, etc.) • Additional staffing consisting of a Math & Reading Specialist & Counselor. • On going staff development. • After school tutoring and family nights.
