  4. Overall Changes • Name change: • Measurements of Student Progress (3-8) • High School Proficiency Exams (HS) • Shorter, single session (except Writing) • 75 minutes elementary • 90 minutes middle school • 120 minutes high school

  5. Overall Changes continued • Fewer written responses • Only 4-5 Short Answers per subject • 3-8 testing window moved to May • Starting week of May 10th • Exact dates depend on delivery method

  6. Overall Changes continued • Computerized testing-optional to start • 2010: Reading and Math, 6-8 • 2011: R, M, and Science, 5-8 • 2012: R, M, and S, 4-High School • Percent online grows each year • Paper-and-pencil • 3rd grade, Writing?, some special populations

  15. New Standards = we need to change everything to match the new standards • Test Map • Item Specifications • Asking about stuff we’ve never asked about = new items • May not assess some things we used to assess regularly.

  16. Timeline: 5th and 8th • New standards tested starting 2011 • Test Map and Item specifications: planning, working, and decision making meetings: April-August 2009 • Item writing: July 2009 • Pilot testing: embedded in 2010 MSP

  17. Timeline: High School • New standards tested starting 2012 • Test Map and Item specifications: planning, working, and decision making meetings: April-August 2010 • Item writing: July 2010 • Pilot testing: embedded in 2011 HSPE

  18. End of Course exam? • OPSI and Board of Education will submit a report to the Legislature about End-of-Course options in High School Science. • Legislature will most likely act in 2010 session. • We will adjust our plans to carry out the law.
