  1. Snake Project This project came about with a general interest in animals. The children were interested in making cages and fences for different animals and after watching a couple clips about snakes, their interest began to focus on reptiles. Soon a large group of children began to question different aspects about snakes as well as make predictions about a snakes behavior. The children were able to engage during this project in multiple ways. The snake project reached out to every child in their social skills by letting them converse with their peers, in their mathematical skills by letting them measure their striking distance in both standard and non-standard forms, in their development in language and literacy by allowing them to participate in multiple forms of library research, and science skills by letting them practice their observation skills. • Technology was well utilized within this project because the children were able to expand on their research abilities by using the internet. The children searched for both pictures and clips relating to the project and were also introduced to a new website in which they looked at particular pictures and zoomed into very minute details. They also were able to manipulate the cameras and flip cameras for their personal use during the project. The children captured important thoughts through digital photography during a field trip on Marshall’s Campus. Activity: You and your child will be able to recreate the snake skin done in a previous activity this semester. Ask your child how he or she created their snake skin, and remember “think like a snake!” Also, a Gigapan slide will be provided on the SMART board so you and your child can explore the different snakes in jars.
