Terms ICCUAM- Interagency Coordinating Committee on Validation of Alternative Methods- which is a committee of 15 research agencies that see testing information Animal Testing- the use of nonhuman animals in research and development projects for purposes in determining the safety of food, cosmetics, drugs, and other uses. Vivisections- action of cutting into or dissecting a body biopsy- an examination of tissue removed from the body to discover the presence, extent, and cause of a disease

Pros • least expensive • scientific advancement takes place in labs everywhere • you do not get the same result on others • helps with telling the similarities and differences between animals and humans • ensures safety of drugs • most accurate • many of todays uses would not be here • animals reproduce faster • find cures • saves animals from diseases • organ transplant was made possible • saves many children • computer models cannot always predict unknown variables • cell cultures is not accurate • we can have cosmetics, food, medications, and many others

Cons • 22 million animals are used • alternate ways of testing • animals suffer • stress and boredom causes animals to pull out their hair and bite their own skin • millions of animals die • poisoned, blinded and killed • toxic to animals still sold to consumers • ethics and morality… Is this right? • accuracy is not always the best way to test • price • some substances are unusful
