DEFINITION An object complement is a noun, a pronoun or an adjective which follows a direct object to rename it or state what it has become. It complete the object.
USAGE Object complements are most usually noun phrases or adjective phrases. Usually object complements agree with the object in number (singular or plural) object complements complete a reference to the object of the clause. It comes after the object in the clause
APART FROM THAT… Object complements are often introduced with a complementizer. It completes the meaning of the sentence by saying something about the object . It is therefore called the complement of the object .
They made David captain.Captain is the complement to David. It explains the state of David I saw him steal the wallet.the "steal the wallet" is of objective complement and in this case its type is plain-infinitive serving as verb. I would like youto go.the "to go" above is of objective complement and in this case its type is to-infinitive serving as noun(direct object). it means it is direct object as well as objective complement for you(indirect object)
