What is Selective Mutism? • S.M is the inability to speak in certain settings e.g. School and other public places despite regular speaking in other settings. Selective Mutism is associated with anxiety and may be an extreme form of social phobia.
diagnosis • Certain criteria must be met in or to qualify for diagnosis of S.M. • The duration of the S.M is at least one month not limited to the first week of school. The inability to speak is not limited do to lack of knowledge or discomfort of their primary lanquage.
