Tutorial Curriculum Standards Module Powered by Academic Benchmarks support.ebsco.com
EBSCO’s Curriculum Standards Module, powered by Academic Benchmarks, can help teachers correlate EBSCO content quickly and easily to Common Core, state-, or Canadian province-specific curriculum standards. Available in several school products, the module provides browsing of specific benchmarks, many which have recommended search strings for successful content retrieval. Standards can also be saved as text files for integration with written lesson plans. In this tutorial, we will demonstrate the module using Literary Reference Center Plus, but the steps are the same no matter which school product you use.
From Literary Reference Center Plus, you can access the Curriculum Standards Module by clicking the Curriculum Standards link under Reference Shelf. This will launch the Academic Benchmarks application in a new browser window.
After the module launches, select your desired State from drop-down list. You may also choose Common Core or Canada’s Western and Northern Canadian Protocol. Then select Standard, Subject, Year, and Grade to access the curriculum standards, which display in a column on the right side of the screen.
From there, click on the plus sign (+) icon to view benchmarks for your chosen topic. Expand your view to include the most detailed benchmarks by clicking on subsequent plus sign icons. Click the minus sign (-) icon to collapse the list.
Once you find your desired standard, copy the entire Search String (including parentheses) and paste it into the Literary Reference Center Plus Find field. Then click Search.
A result list is displayed. You can narrow your results by using the limiters in the left-hand column. Click the title to view details about the result, or click the full-text link to read the complete article. Don’t have time to read it now? Sign In to your personal account and click the Add to Folder icon to save the article to your personal folder.
From the Curriculum Standards Module, you also have the option to Print, Email, or Save the standards to your computer as a .txt file. Click Print to display the standards in HTML.
From here, you can print the page, or copy and paste the information into your written lesson plan. Be sure to remove the search strings and reformat the text as needed. Click “Back to browser” to return to the Curriculum Standards Module.
