What is Applied Behavior Analysis?(ABA) • Applied Behavior Analysis is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior. • Baer, Wolf and Risley, 1968

  3. What is ABA? • Behavior analysis is a scientifically validated approach to understanding behavior and how it is affected by the environment. In this context, “behavior" refers to actions and skills. "Environment" includes any influence – physical or social – that might change or be changed by one's behavior.

What is ABA? • On a practical level, the principles and methods of behavior analysis have helped many different kinds of learners acquire many different skills – from healthier lifestyles to the mastery of a new language. Since the 1960s, therapists have been applying behavior analysis to help children with autism and related developmental disorders. Autism Speaks

Where Can I Receive ABA Training? • Johnson State College has the only approved BCBA training program in Vermont • Antioch University at Keene State College in New Hampshire has an approved BCBA program • There are many approved ABA training programs in the USA.   10. ABA RELATED FIELDS Serving individuals on the autism spectrum, children and youth with emotional and behavioral needs, individuals with mental health needs and individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  13. What do we know about salaries of ABA professionals? Recent Survey of starting salaries ranged from $40,000-$75,000 • 30% reported $60,000-80,000 • 15% reported $80,000-100,000 Jon Bailey, FSU

According to SalaryWork.chron.com • Although the last salary survey conducted by the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts in 2009 revealed a wide pay scale for board-certified behavior analysts of approximately $20,000 to $100,000, most salaries either fell into the $40,000 to $60,000 range or $60,000 to $80,000 range. Nearly 10 percent earned more than $100,000 per year. Self-employed behavior analysts charged between $45 and $105 per hour or imposed daily fees of $600 to $800.
