  4. Key Points • Plessy v. Ferguson was a court case that upheld separate but equal • Brown v. Board was a court case that desegregated schools because they were separate but not equal.

Ferguson • During this time blacks and whites were separated on trains. • The train cars had to be equal in quality • Plessy was chosen to test the law by riding in the white car and then was arrested • The case went to the Supreme Court • Separate but equal was upheld from 1896 until 1954

  7. Brown v. Board • In 1954 Plessy v. Ferguson was overturned by Brown v. Board of Education • It found that schools that were separate were not equal
