Ideas for optimising NERI modelling This is not an out-of-the-box, thought through solution, ready to implement. This is a vision/ideas to how the expertise at NERI could be better utilized.
Decoupling the HD from the ecological model • Make the model easier to integrate with different Hydro Dynamics (HD) models. • Focus the work on one model to reach further and strengthen the NERI ownership. • Optimize the computational time (HD is typically computationally heavier and multiple runs are made on same HD basis).
Making the equations an input to the computational engine • Separate the programming from the scientific input, so that it is easier to utilize the personal qualifications. • Make it easy to change the Ecological model • Scientist can easily 'play' with different equations and see the difference in the model results • Any equation can be put into the model; Bio-Geochemical/Ecological/Toxilogical/Economy model • -only 'local' processes (no spatial derivatives)
