  3. Who am I? My name is Sarah Bruns. I am 24 years old and I live in Houston, Texas. I am currently a senior at the University of Houston and I am majoring in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology. What is Human Development and Family Studies? • HDFS is a bachelors of science program that looks at the social, physical, psychological, and emotional development of individuals and families (University of Houston). • At the University of Houston, students can major in HDFS and minor in: ~Psychology ~Sociology ~American Humanics ~Education Created By Sarah Bruns

What do HDFS majors study? • According to the University of Houston, students study: • All aspects of lifespan development • Psychological Development • Social Development • Physical Development • Language Development • Family Development • Parent and Family Education • Human services • Laws and procedures • Non-profit services • Early childhood education • Research techniques Created By Sarah Bruns

  6. What kinds of jobs are available to HDFS majors? Since HDFS students study such a wide range of material, there are many jobs that are available to them right after graduation!   9. What do I hope to do with my degree? Figure 13 In the fall, I plan on doing my internship with an Early Childhood Intervention program in Houston. I hope that this will lead to being hired with ECI so that I can carry on working for them after graduation. Created By Sarah Bruns

Why are early interventions necessary? • It prepares children for future inclusion settings • It allows children with special needs to get help before they start to show obvious need. • Children who receive early intervention may overcome their special needs and meet their same-age peers in areas such as: • School • Socialization • Speech and Language • Physical Movement Created By Sarah Bruns

  11. Early Childhood Interventions Video • This video is used for training individuals to work with the Head Start Program. Head Start: • Is government funded • Provides early intervention to children with special needs. • This video shows the importance of Head Start and other programs like it for children who have special needs.
