TOPPS - objectives • Develop and propose Best Management Practices (BMPs) to mitigate losses of Plant Protection Products (PPP) to surface water from Point + Diffuse Sources(Water protection Umbrella!) • Develop and provide information, training and demonstrations to farmers, advicers and stakeholders(awareness, improve techniques and infrastructure) • Disseminate materials and knowledge (train the trainers) and contribute to the implementation of the WFD and SUD

  5. TOPPS - principles • Broad regional coverage to create critical mass for the transfer of BMPs to other countries • Stakeholder participation to support acceptance and implementation • Multiskilled projectteams contribute competences ranging from science, applied research to farm advice

TOPPS – harmonisation and transfer • Currently level of harmonized BMPs among EU countries is low • BMPs can be harmonised on the level „What to do“ • BMPs local adaptions on the level „ How to do“ • BMP local adaption needs for point sources very low, might be higher with diffuse source BMPs EU –CORE local adaptions

Why break out groups • Drift and runoff mitigation measures will be presented and should be discussed in the groups. • Please share with us your expertise, your support and also your concerns • Priority will be given on „what to do“ (the European core) • Stakeholder involvement from the beginning helps to get BMPs clarified, accepted, supported and endorsed • Please get involved
