  1. It’s time to play: Fact or Fiction

  2. It’s ok to tell new students they have to contact me to get activated. • False! It is your job to reach out to students for a welcome call within 1-2 days of them being placed, not the other way around. • It can be communicated they are welcome to call you to get started but not expressed as they MUST be the first to reach out

  3. Its ok to not work today-I’ll just have my teammate cover me. I don’t need to request off or tell anyone • False! If you are not working for a full day you need to request off in vtime and let your IL know. • Teaming is great for covering each other on single days off or dividing up different tasks or giving each other a break at different times in a day-if you have a class or doctors appt and can’t answer your phone etc… • If you are not logging on and grading and answering your phones for the entire day you must request off in vtime

  4. I really don’t want kids skipping dba’s so I am going to tell them they can’t go past a dba. • False-this does not keep kids working. They will use this as a reason to stop working. You always remind and encourage them not to skip these but if they get to one and its after hours or they can’t reach you-they can go on to the next one.

  5. I text to much to log it all in VSA-its ok not to log them all • False! All contact with a student or parent need to be logged to protect you and to help your lead teacher and IL should any issues arise

  6. I go over everything in the welcome call so my welcome email can be short and sweet • False! You need to have all important policies and procedures for FLVS and your class in writing. • The student and parent will always have the email to refer back to-they may forget something from your call • This is to protect you if a parent or student says they never heard about the grace period, collaboration etc…

  7. As long as I made 3 grace period warning calls it doesn’t matter when they’re made. • False! Students who are behind must be called as soon as they start falling behind. • It is not ok to not contact a student for 2-3 weeks and then call 3 times in one week to make the 3 call requirement before you drop them. • The earlier you call them and see how you can help and explain again the grace period the more likely they are to catch up and become a productive and responsible worker

  8. The student just needs to submit 1-2 more assignments so I can give them the exam password. • False! Students must be 100% finished with all lessons before being given a password. • Even if they completed all dba’s but have yet to submit them-they should not be given passwords in the event they forget to submit that lesson. • Also don’t give exam passwords out until the collaborations are finished and submitted

  9. It’s ok to tell my students to call or text only Monday-Friday. • False! You need to be telling students your hours are daily-that’s every day including week-ends from 8am-8pm • You do have 24 hours to call a student back but they should know they are able to contact you every day of the week and week-end

  10. It’s ok to grade student's assignments after the 48 hour window if I get really busy. • False! All work submitted by a student must be graded within 48 hours of them submitting it. • Be sure you are organizing lessons by last date submitted rather than activity if you do not grade daily • The exception is for any time off you had. The general rule is for every day you have off you have two days to make it up.

  11. It’s ok to not submit this AI ticket because the student is a great kid so I’ll just talk to her about it. • False! Any AI violation must be submitted. Take a snag-it and keep a running log of the student's you need to submit a ticket for and do them all at once 2-4 times a week as a time saver

  12. It’s ok to tell students you’re really busy so it may take awhile to respond to them on your voicemail and emails • False: Unless you are off you must return all forms of contact-phone calls, text messages and emails within 24 hours of receiving it

  13. CA is a low priority-its not hurting anything to keep kids in there • False! Monitoring and managing the CA view keeps students in your class that are serious students and keeps the wait list down for everyone. It is also excellent customer service. • Students need to be removed ten days after being placed once the appropriate contact attempts have been made

  14. There’s more teachers than shifts in the help room so no one will miss if I don’t sign up. • False! Help room shift sign ups are monitored and it is everyone’s responsibility to help out and be on time for their shift

  15. I had an emergency and can’t make it to my live lesson/collab but its ok someone else is there. • False! Most sessions have a large number of students attend and require two teachers. It is also part of your responsibility to teach a live lesson each month. If you are not able to make it you need to give as much notice to your partner and IL as possible and find a replacement to take your place.
