Nature of Science Test Review What is on the test: A) Complete a full EDD B) Identify IV, DV, Constants, Control Groups, Trials, C) Create Hypothesis and Conclusions D) Make Observations(QL & QNT) and Inferences E) Metric System- units, equipment, definitions F) Graphing- Decide which graph to use and make a graph
EDDs • WHY AN EDD? • Because its like answering a FILL_IN _THE_BLANK problem instead of a SHORT ANSWER/ESSAY question
HYPOTHESIS/ CONCLUSIONS • HYPOTHESIS- • Your Prediction of What You Think Will Happen • IF the (IV is changed), then the (DV) will (make a prediction) • CONCLUSION- • Your Explanation of What Actually Happened • THE Hypothesis was CORRECT/INCORRECT because (TELL WHY BASED ON THE RESULTS OF EXPERIMENT)
OBSERVATIONS/ INFERENCES • OBSERVATIONS- • Facts using all your senses • QUALITATIVE (QL)- without numbers • QUANTITATIVE (QNT)- with numbers • INFERENCES- • Prediction/Guess using observations and prior knowledge • Predict the “BIG PICTURE/MAIN IDEA” using all your observations
Metric System and Graphing • Metric System- • Know units used, equipment used, and definitions of measurements • Graphing- • Be able to decide which graph to use based on the information • Be able to create the “perfect” graph using your 4 steps
