Types of Support at Nova Classical Academy Continuum of Services Response to Intervention Special Education 504 English Language Services Homework Club: Tuesday/Thursdays after school Peer Tutoring: Finalizing Applications Office Hours: Vary by teacher
Struggles Just because a student has some struggles does not mean they will qualify for Special Education or 504. Seeking out the resources the school has Contact the teachers of your student to have a meeting to discuss educational programming. RTI Referral After-School assistance Office Hours
Response to Intervention 1. Identify struggling students through teacher, administrator, or parent referral. 2. Providing a series of interventions to help the student be successful 3. Monitor Progress through data 4. Make Adjustments (New intervention, change tiers) 5. Process typically used before any special education referral.
RTI Tier 1 • Classical core curriculum • General Classroom Management for behavior • Includes most and/or ALL of the class • Universal Screener for Academics: AIMS/Math; D/F List with at least 2 or more F's, MN Comprehensive Assessment results; Educational REcords Bureau Examination. • Universal Screener Non-Academics: attendance; truancy; demerits, suspensions • School, teacher or parent concerns.
RTI Tier 2 • Strategic, planned interventions • Research based supplemental curriculum in addition to core (separate reading or math class, mentoring, peer/faculty tutoring, TIP Referral, Academic Counseling, behavior/reinforcement chart, homework club). • Level 1 Functional Behavioral Assessment • Targeted to skills deficits • Progress monitoring twice per month • Ongoing parent communication from procurator on process.
RTI Tier 3 • Intensive Interventions • Individually designed program based upon results of TIER 2 monitoring. • Ongoing parent communication • Screenings as needed. • Diagnostic Assessments if referral to special education

IEP/504 Accommodations • Program/Accommodation plans are shared with parents and staff • Collaborative effort amongst all of the individuals who are working with the student • Working on providing information and clarification for staff members on how to implement
SPED Referrals Same form will be used for SPED, RTI, and 504. (Located in SPED, 504, and RTI folders) Please submit ALL forms to John Larson, Director of Student Support Services (jlarson@novaclassical.org) Please document and fill out form entirely.
