Ingredients • 2 cups flour • 1 cup salt • 1 cup water You can make this using any cup, mug or pot. Just use the same one for each measurement and you’ll be fine.
Method • Combine flour, salt and water in a mixing bowl until it forms a dough. • Knead on a lightly floured surface until a soft doughy ball forms. If you want a coloured dough add food colouring to the water.
Preparation • Roll dough between two sheets of floured parchment paper or cling-film. This is because the dough is quite sticky. • The dough is also very fragile. The thicker you roll it the easier it is to work with. For younger children keep it quite thick.
Decoration • Place items on to a baking tray lined with parchment paper BEFORE you decorate them • As they will be dried at a very low temperature you can use lots of additions including jewels, mirrors, beads, stamps, ink prior to baking • Don’t forget the hanging holes. A drinking straws is ideal for this.
Baking • Bake finished creations for about 3-hours at 75C. You can turn them half-way (or not!) • Leave to cool in the oven.
Finishing • Once completely dry you can paint and/or varnish them then finish with ribbon. NB: Unused dough can be wrapped in a sandwich bag and kept in the fridge for up to six weeks.
