Belief something that one thinks is true Ideal the thought of something being perfect or good Beliefs and Ideals: • People’s ideas and feelings influence their decisions. • Discuss: • If you believe that peanut butter is delicious, how might that influence what you decide to make for lunch? • If you believe that the ideal (best)way to make a PB&J is to cut the crust off the bread, how might that affect the way you make a PB&J when you are at a friend’s house? (This friend loves the crust!)

Conflict A struggle or disagreement between ideas, interests or purposes Change To make or become different Conflict and Change: • Conflict causes change • Discuss: • If you and your friend have a conflict about how to make a PB&J, what might happen? • How could this conflict cause a good change? • How could this conflict cause a bad change?

  4. Essential Questions • How can the decisions that you make affect the world around you? • What are some beliefs that are important to you and your family? • How do you decide if one belief is more important than another one?

  5. Distribution of Power: • Laws and people's beliefs help decide who gets to make choices.

  6. Individuals, Groups, Institutions: • What people, groups, and institutions say and do can help or harm others whether they mean to or not.

  7. Location: Where people live matters.

  8. Production, Distribution, Consumption: The ways people make, get, and use goods and services may be different from how people in other places make, get, and use goods and services.
