  1. Human Environment and Interaction

  2. H-E-I • It occurs because humans depend on, adapt to, and modify the world around them. • Human changes may help or hurt the environment. The environment can also harm people.

  3. Movement and Migration

  4. People, goods, and ideas move from one place to another. • Migrate: move from one area to settle in another. • When people emigrate, they take their ideas and customs with them.

  5. Reasons for Moving • Migration is the result of push and pull factors: problems in one place push people out. Advantages in another place pull people in. • Push Factors: poverty, overcrowding, lack of jobs, wars, prejudice, etc • Pull Factors: higher standard of living, employment, educational opportunities, freedoms, rights, peace.

  6. Migration – moving from one area/place to another area/place • Example: Mississippi to Georgia • Immigration – moving from one country to another country. • Mexico to US

  7. Barriers • Transportation barriers – natural barriers that can make migration difficult. EX: mountains oceans canyons raging rivers • Transportation corridors – physical or man-made features that help in the movement of goods and people. Modern technology and transportation has helped. EX: Panama Canal

  8. The Lorax H-E-I: At the end of the reading, students should write down what they feel was the biggest, or most important effect on the environment. They need to justify their decision with 2-3 supporting details. Movement: • What did the Once-ler provide to the economic market? • How did this product move?
