The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme is designed to enhance the established Leaving Certificate. The L.C.V.P. combines the academic strengths of the Leaving Certificate with a new focus on self-directed learning, innovation and enterprise. The primary goal of the programme is to prepare young people for adult life by ensuring that they are educated in the broadest sense.
Programme Requirements Requirements for the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme which is of two years duration are as follows: • L.C.V.P. students must take a minimum of five Leaving Certificate Subjects including Irish unless student has an Irish exemption. • A recognised course in a Modern European Language. • They must study the two Link Modules, Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education. • Two subjects from one of the following designated Vocational Subject Groupings.
Vocational Subject Groupings Specialist Subjects 2017/2018 • Construction Studies, Engineering, Design & Communication Graphics (any two). • Physics and Construction Studies or Engineering or Design & Communication Graphics (DCG). • Agricultural Science and Construction Studies or Engineering or DCG. • Agricultural Science and Chemistry or Physics. • Home Economics, Agricultural Science, Biology (Any Two). • Home Economics and Art. • Accounting and Business. • Physics and Chemistry. • Biology and Chemistry or Physics. • Biology and Agricultural Science. • Art and Design & Communication Graphics (DCG).
Service Subjects 2017/2018 • Engineering or Construction Studies or Design & Communication Graphics and Accounting or Business • Home Economics and Business or Accounting • Agricultural Science and Business or Accounting • Art and Business or Accounting • Music and Business or Accounting
The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme consists of two Link Modules Link Module 1 – Preparation for the World of Work/Work Experience • Students will research and investigate local employment opportunities • Develop job seeking skills such as letter writing, filling in application forms, C.V. presentation and interview techniques • Gain valuable practical experience of the world of work • Interview and work shadow a person in a career area that interests them Link Module 2 – Enterprise Education • Meet and interview enterprising people on site and in the classroom • Plan and run an enterprising activity • Students will be involved in organising visits to local business and community enterprise
Activities in the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme • Conducting Investigations. • Arranging Visits. • Inviting Visitors. • Working in teams. • Organising Enterprise Activities. • Actively preparing for work. • Experiencing the World of Work. • Making Presentations. • Using Information and Communications Technology. • Trips to Career Exhibitions. • Interviewing People.
Assessment The Link Modules are assessed by Written Examination (40%) and by Portfolio of Coursework (60%) The Written Examination is as follows: Section A - Audio Visual Presentation Section B - Case Study (received in advance by the students) Section C - General Questions (answer 4 out of 6)
The Portfolio of Coursework is as follows: Core Items • Curriculum Vitae • Career Investigation • Summary Report • Enterprise / Action Plan Optional Items (any two) • Diary of Work Experience • Enterprise Report • Recorded Interview / Presentation • Report on My Own Place
Certification L.C.V.P. students receive the same certificate as other Leaving Certificate students but their Certificate includes an additional statement of the results of the Link Modules. The Link Modules are recognised in points terms by the Universities and the Institutes of Technology. The points are as follows: Grade Universities and Institutes of Technology award Distinction 66 Points (H4 ) Merit 46 Points ( H6 or O2) Pass 28 Points (O4)
