  3. “We the people, of the United States in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

  4. What does it mean? • More perfect union • Establish justice • Insure domestic tranquility • Provide for the common defense • Promote the general welfare • Secure the blessings of liberty

  5. Form a more perfect union…. Meaning- A better union of states than before the king of England.

  6. Establish justice Meaning- create a fair legal system

  7. Insure domestic tranquility • Meaning- Keep things peaceful at home and in the country.

  8. Provide for the common defense • Meaning- Join together to defend against attacks.

  9. Promote the general welfare Meaning- Help support people’s well being.

  10. Secure the blessings of liberty • Meaning- Freedom & liberty is around today and for our descendants.
