Objective 1 • Discuss the value of having a well-stocked response unit for emergencies. • Take a few minutes to discuss this • When was the last time you reached for something and it wasn’t there? • What was missing? • Is it there now? • Purpose of this session is to put everything in its place.
Objective 2 • Using the IDPH and PREMSS self inspection check sheets, physically locate all of the equipment and supplies on all of your department’s response vehicles in advance of the inspection. • Where do you get the check sheets?
www.provena.org/usmc/premss • Go to the PREMSS website • Go to EMS Coordinator’s area • Log on “premss” • Password “ems0671” • Choose agency relicensure • Down load the check sheets that apply.
IDPH Check Sheets • IDPH • Ambulance Inspection Form • Non-transport Vehicle Inspection Form *** • PREMSS • FR/BLS • ILS/ALS *** Non-transport agency inspections are required annually and are due by June 30th. Agencies will receive more information regarding this inspection in early May.
Self Inspections • These forms are for reference only • For agencies doing self-inspection, a packet with forms will be sent to your agency in early May. • A PREMSS office staff member will visit most agencies to help with the self inspections
Objective 3 • Assess all equipment and supplies on the response units for validity of expiration dates and state of repair. • Expiration dates are sometimes hard to find. • When expiration dates have passed, the sterility of the item cannot be guaranteed. • Do you need to order any supplies / equipment?
Look for the unusual equipment you don’t use very often. . . .
Triage Supplies SMART Triage tags Make sure the JumpSTART algorithm is included in the pack
In particular check expiration dates on . . . • Vaseline Gauze • Bandaging materials • Sterile water and saline • Medications • Suction catheters • Oral and nasal airways • ET tubes • IV catheters
Do you need to reorder? • Is the equipment packaging intact? • Is the expiration date past? • Do you need to order more? • Do you need a special form from your vendor? • Does the form need the Medical Director’s signature?

Be sure to check • The expiration dates of all monitoring and defibrillation pads. • Status of battery • Spare battery • Tool kit for shaving the chest
Paperwork • Patient care reports (Run sheets) • Patient refusal forms • Continuation sheets • Risk screens
Objective 4 • Plan improved ways to package and store equipment and supplies for better access in emergencies. • Does everyone know where everything is? • Is there a better place to put it than where you always do?
What new ideas do you have? • Better than this !?!?
Rosters • This is also the time to check your roster • Is it current? • Have you added new members? • Are some members no longer with you? • Do you have license numbers for everyone? • Do you have license expiration dates for everyone? • Has anyone expired?
A current roster should be submitted to the EMS office at the time of the inspection.
