Current Environment • Most UK institutions publically funded • Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) funds LJMU • LJMU needs to reduce recruitment in 2009/2010 due to over-recruitment in 2008/09 • Rationalisation of current portfolio of courses • LJMU strategic focus • Enhancing student employability • WoW® (World of Work) initiative • Improving student satisfaction and success

Key technological roles • Enhancing student employability • Supporting student self-awareness and understanding of the world of work • E-portfolios with multimedia content, accessible through mobile technologies • Using Wimba Classroom for live/archived ‘expert’ employer presentations • Improving student satisfaction and success • Retention, communication and support • Using Pronto to support early-stage transition to university • Using Wimba Voice Email for timely feedback on assessment
