Inter- ministerial coordination and Committees II. Subcommittee on Policy and Plan under National Coordinating Committee on Chemicals Management - an inter-ministerial body with the participation of related business, academia, public interest and labour organizations - responsible for the development of National Strategic Plan on Chemicals Management (NSPCM).The Subcommittee on Policy and Plan on Chemicals Management has endorsed the integration of GHS into the NSPCM.

Effective since 13 March 2012 Coverage:Hazardous substances under the control of Department of Industrial Works,Except for chemical wastes, and used electronic devices Manufacturers, importers, exporters and possessors of hazardous substances are required to comply. Information and Database Development • Creation of database and computer software model classification of 500 industrial hazardous substances according to GHS (by DIW) • Development of Thai First Response Information Database for the Accidents Involving Chemicals/ Dangerous Goods Transport : Thai-FRID (by Ministry of Transport and GTZ) • About 3,000 commonly used substances are listed and internet users can search for information by filling in the UN Number or CAS Number or substances name.

Government and Business Capacity Building (continued) • UNITAR–Thailand Workshop on Training and Capacity Building for the Implementation of the GHS, 20-23 September 2011, in Bangkok. • 215 participants • Trained by the UNITAR experts • Objective: To build up technical capacity of concerned sectors and to train prospective participants to be trainers in subsequent trainings.
Government and Business Capacity Building (continued) • Extended trainings : UNITAR–Thailand Workshop on GHS Capacity Building for the Development of Thailand National Chemicals Management, 12 and 20-21 December 2012 • Trainers: resource persons trained in the advanced course of UNITAR-ILO-OHP primary program in 2011 • Training materials : UNITAR courses translated into Thai available in hard copy and CD-Rom and will be also made available on the web. • About 240 participants in the Basic Course and 110 participants in the Advanced course Most of trainees were from related business entities

Public & labour awareness raising (continued) Public & labour awareness raising (continued) • GHS pilot school project (by FDA, Office of the Basic Education Commission; OBEC, and Thailand Environment Institute; TEI) • FDA, in collaboration with OBEC, developed learning content on GHS chemical hazard communication and integrated into health and physical education group under the compulsory education curriculum of primary school level 2. The books is currently used by students all over the country.
Public & labour awareness raising (continued) Public & labour awareness raising (continued) GHS awareness raising materials for the public and self-learning materials, e.g. CD - Rom, notebooks for kids, displaying exhibition sets, and booklets for consumers and the public (by FDA) FDA has developed e-learning media for students at all levels, embedded in FDA website. FDA has recently created multimedia learning CD-ROM called “ My House-Safety First: How to use hazardous substances products in household”. It is also posted on the website of Oryor (FDA) Learning Center.
Public & labour awareness raising (continued) Private sector: Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and Chemical business associations organized awareness raising workshops on GHS for industrial and agricultural chemicals management Chemical Industry Club / Federation of Thai Industries training courses on GHS for industrial business entities Others: Awareness raising activities for public interest organizations SukhothaiThammathirat Open University has integrated GHS contents into Occupational Health and Safety curriculum, for occupational safety officers.
