  1. Welcome to Central Magnet Engineering Marc Guthrie guthriem@rcschools.net

  2. Classes I Teach – High School • Engineering Design 1 – 2nd Year • Includes all types of engineering from mechanical, electrical, structural, safety, and skill development • Focus on problem solving – a lot of hands on activities • Engineering Practicum – 4th Year • Problem solving is the main focus • Includes a webpage/written portion and project • Presentation to industry professionals

  3. Materials needed Engineering Design 1 • Pencil • Pen • Composition Notebook – NOT SPIRAL BOUND • Loose leaf notebook paper as needed • Graph Paper as needed • Scientific Calculator when needed • Build Materials when needed • You will access most assignments from my classroom webpage

  4. Classroom Expectations • Arrive to class on time and be ready when the bell rings • Participate in all class activities • Respect the ideas of others • Use classroom materials appropriately • Report any injury or equipment damage immediately • Cell phones are not needed in this class, headphones and earbuds will be taken up if used in class without permission • Students must wear closed toed shoes and appropriate clothing in the Engineering lab – School dress code rules apply at all times. • All work is expected to be completed in this classroom. You will not be allowed to go to the robot room to work.

  5. Working with Partners Engineering Design 1 – You will work in groups of 2-3 on most projects. Occasionally, you may work by yourself. Engineering Practicum – You will work by yourself or with one other partner. Either is fine with me. Make sure you and your partner are compatible

  6. Restroom Break / Water You may go to the restroom at your discretion. You will need to sign out and sign back in when you leave the classroom. If leaving class becomes a habit, it will be addressed on a personal basis. You may go to the water fountain to fill up your water bottle as needed.

  7. Food in the Classroom Drinks in bottles with screw on lids are allowed. Snacks should be eaten between classes, not during class time. Do not plan to eat lunch in this classroom without permission from me, this includes Study Hall time. You will not be allowed to go to the office to pick up any ordered food during class/study hall time.

  8. Tools • Tools will be provided in tool trays as needed. Please only use the tools in your tool tray and return the tray when finished. • Power tools will be available for use. • Drill • Jigsaw • Miter Saw • Drill Press • Sander

  9. Extracurricular Activities • ACE – Architecture, Construction, and Engineering • Led by industry professionals who help the students research, develop, and build a model structure • Group of 12 – 15 students • Meets biweekly • Opportunity for a $2000 scholarship • Mr. Bonanno will be the sponsor

  10. Extracurricular Activities • FIRST Robotics • Provides opportunities for students to compete in an athletic style contest • Incorporates the engineering design process, teamwork, building, testing, evaluation, and performance • Central Car Club • Associated with Stones River Car Club • See Sergeant Culp for more details
