  1. Absorbance of Some Biomolecules

  2. Mitochondrial Electron Carriers Electron carriers cycle between reduced and oxidized states. Reduced form Oxidized form NADH NAD+ FMNH2 FMN CoQH2 CoQ Cyt b-Fe+2Cyt a-Fe+3 Cyt c1-Fe+2Cyt a-Fe+3 Cyt c-Fe+2Cyt a-Fe+3 Cyt a-Fe+2Cyt a-Fe+3 Cyt a-Cu+1Cyt a-Cu+2

  3. FAD FAD has an absorbance max at 450 nm. FADH2 shows little absorbance at 450 nm.

  4. NADH NADH has an absorbance maximum at 340 nm. NAD shows no absorbance at 340 nm.

  5. Cytochromes Reduced cyt has 3 peaks: a, b and g. Prominent band is the Soret band (g). In oxidized cyt, a and b collapse into a single band. The position of the absorbance bands vary with the cyt. Cyt a, cyt b, cyt c, etc.

  6. End of Absorbance
