Country/Regional/Global Reflections - Monday 12:30-12:45 • Country: How to create political space and national commitment for child protection systems strengthening? • Involve the different sectors from the beginning of the mapping process. • Bringing them on board in setting the agenda for child protection • Identify idea champions( child protection strengthening champion), especially among politicians, CSOs and civil servants • Identify entry points, taking advantage of existing spaces, opportunities such as OVC policy, JLOS SWAP • Influencing the budget circular, to mainstream, child protection in it thus state funds are allocated to it Conference on Child Protection Systems Strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa

  3. Country & Regional/Global Reflections Monday 3:40-4:10 • Country Questions: What promising practices/key lessons have we learned from other countries? What implication does this learning have for our country/work and how can we bring it home? What experiences can we share to support other country’s systems strengthening efforts? • From Kenya: The Ministry of Finance was involved and shared the process in addition to other sectors. As a strategy • The importance of clear results , what is the return to the investment in strengthening child protection system. • We need to learn more about the informal system and we need to invest more in it recognizing that the majority of cases of children are actually dealt with at community level. • We need to recognize and appreciate that in each country there is a system and what is required is to identify the gaps in light of the values of that country • Sharing the methodology used for mapping the community based systems conducted in Uganda. • Coordination mechanisms that exist in Uganda in the area of child protection Conference on Child Protection Systems Strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa
