  1. Isaiah 43

  2. ISAIAH CH 43 690 BC

  3. Isaiah 43 This is part of 8 consecutive chapters in Isaiah where God speaks in the First Person of His unique status as the One and Only God: the God of power and of creation we can never fathom the God of wisdom and good counsel the God Who can rightly ridicule all pretenders and goddies the God Who loves people and vows to protect Israel the God Who sets kings up and brings them down the God Who uses kings, people, nature and history for purposes of His own the God of the NT Gospel of redemption and restoration, through Christ, His Anointed One (Good News) the God of judgment (Bad News)

  4. Isaiah 43 You must realize that, first and foremost, the promises are to the descendants of Abraham – not through Ishmael, but through Isaac; the descendants of Isaac – not through Esau, but through Jacob (whom God re-named “Israel”), and to the 12 tribes and their descendants. God has a special place in His Heart for them; and for us, who are grafted into the Israel covenant tree. “Through the water” reminds us 1) of God’s preservation of a remnant of humanity through Noah, during and after the Flood, 2) of God’s intervention during the Exodus, when He made the Red Sea part and walked Israel through on dry land, and 3) when God took Israel over into the promised land by drying up a path through the Jordan River at flood stage. “Through the flame” reminds us of the experience of three men in the fiery furnace – the Son of God was with them. Speaking of which, Israel was about to go into captivity.

  5. Isaiah 43 3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. At the time Isaiah wrote this, Judah was being spared the wrath of Sennacherib and the Assyrians because, after they had cleaned house on the Northern Kingdom, Israel, the Assyrians had been distracted into going into Egypt, Ethiopia and Meroe (Cush and the Sabeans). Israel would thus be spared for another century. So, in a way, Egypt, Ethiopia and Seba took the hit in Judah’s place. The ransom, however, only bought them some time, however. But here is God saying, “I let others suffer in your stead. That is your ransom. Did it do any good? Did Judah reform and come back to God? No. But it was not for lack of God sending them this warning message. 4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

  6. Isaiah 43 5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I believe God re-states His original point (“I am with thee”) to make 3 others: 1) the other tribes of Israel will be preserved for a later time (Rev. 7), 2) even if Judah goes into captivity, they will be allowed to return, and 3) in the last days, Israel will be regathered yet again. 6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; V. 6 can only refer to the 1948 regathering. At no other time can Israel be said to have come back from the “ends of the earth”. This, to me, is the most remarkable authenticator of Scripture. There is no natural way for this to happen.

  7. Isaiah 43 7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. God formed a special “peculiar” treasure for Himself when He “cut Israel out from the herd” of humanity. He intended them to glorify Himself. He got glory through them in the presence of Pharaoh’s Egypt, then during the provision in the wilderness, the victories over the Canaanites and Philistines, His Presence in and around the Ark, the Tabernacle and the Temple, the glorious reputation during the times of David and Solomon, the miraculous rebuilding of the Temple under Nehemiah, the victories over the Greeks under the Maccabees. Then, God brought us Christ, the Savior, through Israel. Nowadays, we see Israel regathered before our eyes and miraculously sustained, despite the opposition of all the worldly, temporal powers assembled against her. If people choose not to glorify God now, they will later.

  8. Isaiah 43 8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. In one sense this means that the Israel of modern times is made up of highly refined people – scientists, doctors, lawyers, businesspeople, artists, and aggressive atheists – so much genius, above any other people on earth. Smart enough to know better. Yet they seem oblivious, blind and deaf, to their God and Savior. In another sense, the rest of the world, even some Christians, can plainly see the miracle of Israel since 1948, and either deny it, or rebel against it by opposing it. Amazing! 9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. And this is the stupid U.N., voting against Israel time and again after yet another of their phoney-baloney debates. The U.N. of 2012 and the past 50 years is a den of liars and mockery. America still says, “It is truth”, thank God!

  9. Isaiah 43 10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour. 12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God. 13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it? What an absolutely elegant statement the existence of the restored nation of Israel is today; what a powerful witness to God’s love, power and keeping of covenant. There is only one God, and only He could have done this. This is God’s testimony to modern man. Let the whole world sit up and take notice. “Before time was, I AM”. You say you want to annihilate Israel, to undo the work of God? Don’t waste your time. God’s work cannot be stopped. Your best bet is to joint up with Him.

  10. Isaiah 43 14 Thus saith the Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships. God says (especially for the benefit of those who were hauled away to Babylon in 586 BC): “Don’t worry; fear not; the Babylonian bigshots, the Chaldeans, will get theirs in due time.” This took place when the Medes and the Persians conquered Babylon on the night Belshazzar saw the handwriting on the wall.

  11. Isaiah 43 15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King. 16 Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; 17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow. Here, God re-states His intent to keep relationship w/ Israel. In v. 16, He inserts a bit of Creation science. We now know that there are currents all over the oceans. The armies and military forces arrayed against Israel are no match for the God that protects Israel – not back then, not now, and not in the future.

  12. Isaiah 43 18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. 20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen. 21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise. I believe this refers to a day when God will do things with Israel that are, in a way, reminiscent of the Exodus experience, but much, much more impressive still. He will do a new thing the world has never seen. He will impress and awe the world when it sees Him protecting and providing for the remnant of Israel, in the wilderness, as Antichrist tries to annihilate them, once and for all. Of course, in the unified theory, this all ends badly for the enemies of God and Israel, as seen in Isaiah 63.

  13. Isaiah 43 22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel. 23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense. 24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities. I believe this speaks of God’s relationship with Israel since they rejected Christ. The sacrificial services have not been done for centuries. Israel is still in their sins. God is not pleased… …but He loves them anyway!

  14. Isaiah 43 25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. 26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified. 27 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me. 28 Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches. The Gospel is there – to the Jew first and also to the Gentile. Think about it, Israel; let’s reason together; listen to reason, Israel; hear the Gospel. You have original sin, like everybody else; now, even your rabbis spew bad doctrine. They teach against Christ. That is why you got hauled away, then scattered into the world. So? What is God going to do? Stay tuned!
