Let’s take a look at some modern day transcendental poets… One One one, two, three, four great morning light splits through the shade another day older and closer to the grave i'm closer to the grave and come the dawn i woke this morning shackled and drawn shackled and drawn, shackled and drawn pick up the rock, son, and carry it on trudging through the dark in a world gone wrong woke up this morning shackled and drawn whoa!alright, yeah!

Who do you consider modern day transcendentalists? • Oprah-she does for other people, does because she can • Obama-own views and ideas, working hard changing the world for America regardless of the negativity • Mr. Cohen-He makes steps rather than follow them • Snoop Dogg • Lil’ b • Rosa Parks-believed in what she thought was right, she started a movement • MLK • Harriet Tubman-she lead her people to freedom, • Michael Jackson-music tried to make people come together, “human nature”, zoo on his property • Bono

Annotate to show how the song is considered transcendentalist. • Please cut and paste your lyrics into MSWord and use the comments function to annotate.

  6. Homework • Look over your song of choice. • Choose 8-10 lines which spoke to you the most and show elements of transcendentalism. • We will use them in a project I’ll introduce tomorrow.
