Introduction • Assistant professor of food processing & engineering • Joined UF in June 2009 (about 2.5 years now) • In 2.5 years, authored or co-authored • 20 refereed journal articles • One OA book chapter • Over half of the publications OA capable • Learned UF OA Fund from one of my students • Inquired or applied to UF OA Fund 4 times One publication paid by UF OA Fund

Why I Support Open Access Publishing • A source to reduce my publication costs • A win-win-win situation for the publisher, the author and the institution (e.g., UF) • Increased visibility, usage and impact of my work (i.e., more access and/or citation to my article) • The nation gets the benefit too as a whole (e.g., public research investment worth more) • The world also benefits – more for the developing countries

Recommendations To author: • Check the journal’s eligibility with UF OA Office before you submit an article – they did a good job in responding to you quickly Ross, Christine Marie <christine.ross@ufl.edu> • Print the application form and take it to the UF OA Office in person to avoid lost mail To administrator: • Extend coverage to more OA journals or OA books
