RECERTIFICATION THROUGH THE NYS DOH CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM AKA “THE PILOT PROGRAM” 11/9/2012
PARTICIPANTS • You must be enrolled in the CME program with your agency. • Through your agency you should complete and submit to Bureau of Emergency Services (BEMS) • CME Participant form (DOH-4226) • You should be issued a copy of the CME program manual and review the requirements with your agency training officer • Complete and sign participant affirmation form • A copy of this form should be retained in your training file 11/9/2012
THE CME PROGRAM • Training over a 3 year period • From the date your card was last issued to 60 days prior to expiration date • 72 hours in a 3 year period • CONSISTS OF: • Core Hours • Non Core Hours 11/9/2012
CORE HOURS • Must be presented by a NYS CIC • Basic: 26 hours • Intermediate: 40 hours • Critical Care: 36 hours + 13 Supplemental hours (DOH form 5064) • Paramedic: 48 hours + 3 National Standards update hours • Required topics are outlined in the CME manual Based on refresher curriculum for that level. 11/9/2012
NON CORE HOURS • Should be EMS relevant and pre-hospital patient care specific • Suggested topics outlined in CME manual • Can be in house training • You must have documentation of courses etc you take • Keep the original and give a copy to your training officer • Mandatory non core hours: • All levels: BLS CPR • Paramedic Only: ACLS • All levels: ICS: 100, 700 and IS 5.A (links at www.midstateems.org) • If you have a certificate post 9/11/2001 this may be submitted to the CIC of the core content course in which you are registered • Core hours classroom and online are offered at different times and locations through the region check www.midstateems.org regularly 11/9/2012
NON CORE HOURS • Basic: 46 hours • Intermediate: 32 hours • Critical Care: 36 hours • 13 Supplemental may be applied to non core hours one time only • Paramedic: 24 hours • 3 National Standards hours may be applied to non core hours one time only • Included in these hours must be the mandatory topics as previously stated 11/9/2012
SKILLS/CPR/ACLS • All providers are required to be proficient in skills. • The skills for each level are listed in the CME manual • These can be done as in house training or through direct observation in the field • Skills must be signed off by: • BLS: Agency Training Coordinator • ALS: Medical Director 11/9/2012
SKILLS/CPR/ACLS • Every participant (BLS/ALS) must submit a copy of a current CPR card or have the CME renewal form signed by a CPR instructor • Paramedics only: Must submit a copy of a valid ACLS card with the renewal application 11/9/2012
THE RENEWAL APPLICATION • The renewal forms for each level of provider can be found at: Http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/ems/emsforms The completed renewal form must be received by the NYS DOH EMS no later than 45 days prior to the expiration date of the providers EMT card 11/9/2012
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PROVIDER TO ASSURE THE PAPERWORK IS COMPLETE AND TO THE STATE IN THE REQUIRED TIME FRAME! 11/9/2012
CORE CONTENT CLASSES • Core Content classes are offered throughout the region by Faxton St Luke’s EMS Education • Generally they are offered as combination courses: • Basic/Intermediate • CC/Paramedic • Also offered separately 11/9/2012
ONLINE CORE CONTENT • Online core content is being offered for all levels in 2013 • Online classes will be offered once a month • Course duration will be one month • The online core content consists of 2 classroom sessions • The first session will be for registration and how to sign up to the internet learning site • The last session will be held at a central location with wrap up and a team based final exam • During the online course you will be required to view the online content • You will also be required to take part in an online forum and make a minimum number of posts during the duration of the class • Each course and the sign up dates are listed on www.midstateems.org 11/9/2012
ONLINE CORE CONTENT • Class room sessions: • First session: • Registration • Instructions on how to access the online program • Second Session: • Team based final Exam • Evaluation of program. 11/9/2012
ONLINE CORE CONTENT • The online core content is accessed through Faxton St Luke's NET LEARNING SYSTEM Each participant is given a unique user name and password The content must be completed within the dates of the course. 11/9/2012
ONLINE CORE CONTENT FORUM: In addition to the online core content the participant must also engage in an online forum with the instructor and the other students There is a minimum number of posts required The forum is moderated by the instructor. 11/9/2012
