  1. Chem individual project Sodium Chloride (NaCl) By Sabina Au F.3D (01)

  2. Electron Diagram

  3. Physical Properties Melting point: 801 °C, 1074 K, 1474 °F Boiling point: 1413 °C, 1686 K, 2575 °F Physical state in room temperature: Solid Colour: Colourless or white crystalline Density: 2.165 g cm-3 Solubility in water: 359 g dm-3 Electrical conductivity: Solid~no Liquid~yes

  4. Potential Hazards Irritant Harmful

  5. Protection Safety glasses Eye-wash bottle

  6. Laboratory Preparation Sodium will emit shiny light in Chlorine. 2 elements join together will produce a large amount of heat and become white crystal. This form NaCl, also known as common salt.

  7. Uses 1.As salt ~ Cooking 2. Biological uses ~ to prepare some foods, such as smoked bacon / fish. ~ detach leeches that have attached themselves to feed. ~ disinfect wounds

  8. Uses 3. Household uses ~ as a cleaning agent rubbed on household surfaces. ~ used in many brands of shampoo, toothpaste etc. 4. Opticial uses ~ used in the infrared spectrum range.

  9. Uses 5. Firefighting uses ~ NaCl is the principal extinguishing agent in fire extinguishers used on combustible metal fire such as Magnessium, Potassium and Sodium etc.
