Objectives Once you have completed this module, you should be able to: • Properly and discretely route cable from the LNB to the IRD • Install a wall box and wall plate on the inside of the home • Properly perform basic wall fishing

Cable Routing Routing Guidelines • Did the tech follow the lines of the structure and route the cable at right angles? Remember to always keep the ODU at least 10’ from all utility lines. This is a poor and unsafe ODU location!!!

Cable Routing Attachment Guidelines • Clip placement • 18” - 24” apart on horizontal runs • 36” apart on vertical runs • NEC (always follow local codes!) • Cannot zip-tie to home’s external electrical conduit housing • Cannot be run parallel within 2” of internal electrical • Techs should not be within 10 feet of an aerial power line (house aerial drop) • Never attach cable to the roof of the structure

Cable Routing Point of Entry: Exterior Wall Entry • Mark a location on the wall that is free of obstacles • Drill from the inside to the outside • Drill through the drywall and stop drilling • Move bit from side to side to double-check for obstacles “Measure Twice Drill Once” from a fixed reference point in order to verify location of the hole.

Exercise Hands-on • In groups of three • Take turns installing a wall box and plate • Complete at least three installations • When you feel confident and are ready to be evaluated, raise your hand
