  3. Why the Consortium • There is a clear evidence that most of NGOs involved in ARD in SSA are far apart, less coordinated, and working in isolation, and there is no effective mechanisms for them to relate with the other NGOs SSA NGOs Consortium

  4. Why the Consortium?………………………………….cont’d • There has not been ample buying in from NGO constituencies as most “representatives” are selected on individual merit, based on past relationship with FARA and its SRF or individual researchers or Centres in the region SSA NGOs Consortium

Who are we? • We are group of national and sub-regional NGOs networks involved in ARD from Eastern, Western, Southern and Central Africa, representing the following countries:Uganda,Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Sudan, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ghana,andNigeria.   6. Mission NGOs involved in ARD in Sub-Saharan African region collectively influencing agricultural research policies and priority setting, and promoting innovative partnership approaches that effectively engage key actors especially farmers SSA NGOs Consortium

  7. Vision An inclusive ARD system, generating appropriate innovations that result in sustainable livelihoods. SSA NGOs Consortium

  8. What are the mandates/roles of the Consortium? • Mobilize and coordinate NGOs participation in ARD at all levels: *NARs programs; *SSAChallenge Program of FARA; *Global Partnership Programs of GFAR; *meetings and conferences. SSA NGOs Consortium

  9. Mandates and roles……………………………………….cont’d • Monitor and provide feedback on progress, impact, and challenges to research, through documentation, studies, systematic M&E. SSA NGOs Consortium

  10. Mandates and roles……………………………………….cont’d • Develop effective communication sharing mechanisms amongst NGOs on the one hand, and NGOs and regional research institutions/fora on the other hand SSA NGOs Consortium

  11. Mandates and roles……………………………………….cont’d • Provide technical support and capacity building to NGOs to enable them play their role more effectively. SSA NGOs Consortium

  12. Mandates and roles……………………………………….cont’d • Convene meetings of all stakeholders for shared learning, documentation and to feed into decision-making at operational and policy levels. SSA NGOs Consortium
