What is Wikileaks? • Wikileaks is website which was launched in 2006. • It was set up by a another business called The Sunshine Press. • Wikileaks is a website which claims to be a Non-Profit Organisation. • On the website, it shows millions of classified documents and media which has been stopped by governments around the world from being released to the people of their countries. • Wikileaks is run by a man called Julian Assange, who is a Australian political activist.
These documents have been given to them by anonymous sources and their identities have never been revealed to the public. These documents include video footage taken from military units, reports taken from Security Services and organisations around the world. They have become famous for revealing the realities of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001. They have been criticised for revealing many civilians identities who have helped the British and Americans during both conflicts. Many have as a result been killed by the Taliban and other groups.
