Structure / Relationship SurveySAFE Overall “Secretariat” and coordinating group SurveySAFE - Marine Surveys Steering Group SurveySAFE - Land Surveys Steering Group Largely WA based Largely Eastern States based Focus Groups Marine focus Forums Focus Groups Onshore focus Forums
1stSurveySAFE Land Forum • Held at South Bank, Brisbane – 19th March 2013 • Chair – Neil Millar, Origin Energy (now Doug Roberts, Beach Energy) • ~40 attendees with good mix of contractors and operators • Primary focus on land seismic but many common themes
Agenda • Welcome – Origin • SurveySAFE - Woodside • Onshore Seismic HSE Review – Santos • Vehicle Safety – Drillsearch • Bushfires – WesternGeco • Paramedic Competency – Geokinetics • Case Study, Heat Stress – WesternGeco • Case Study – Geokinetics • Hot Topic identification
HSE Review • 4 active onshore seismic acquisition companies • 1.5 million man-hours in 2012 • 7 LTI’s • 25 recordable incidents • 92 reportable incidents • TRCF = 15.9 • LTI’s: 3 x falls/trips, 2 x manual handling, 2 x low speed impact • MTC’s: 6 x manual handling, 6 x falls/trips, 4 x heat stress, 4 x cuts
Key Points • Trend going wrong way • Cooper Basin has been a poor performing area • Number of FAC’s increased Aug 12 through to Feb 13 • Most incidents are direct contractors (not sub-contractors) • Most incidents in crew < 2yrs experience – lot of new hires due to activity increase • Line crew / drivers have most incidents • Good focus on driving reducing incidents in this area • More people hurt in camp than in workshop or in transit • Environmental - minor oil spills, fire (started by machinery), Non-authorised clearing, earth disturbance
Vehicle Safety • Driver training • Contractor management • Young driver behaviour • Fatigue management • Equipment requirements for Remote Areas (guidelines?) • Recovery equipment and training (e.g. snatch straps) • Travelling alone • Vehicle specs (5* rating) • Protection of other road users
In Summary • Different environment • Different contractors • Different operators But • The same issues • Downloads of all SurveySAFE Land Forum presentations are available on the SurveySAFE website: www.surveysafe.org.au
