  1. “Celebrating all our steps to success” Sports Results Football – Greendown Tournament Wednesday 27th April 2011 saw the annual West Swindon Greendown Football and Netball Tournament. Our “A” team had been rocked by the news that Luke had broken his leg playing for Swindon Town in a tournament in Holland over the Easter Holidays but were still determined to win the Tournament. In the League Section of the Tournament, we were pitched against teams from Millbrook, Tregoze and Oliver Tomkins. Our first match against Millbrook did not start too auspiciously with a goal conceded early on, but a spirited performance led to an equaliser by Ewan W-M, following a good move down the right. Joe M passed it back to Ewan who cut in and scored into the bottom left-hand corner. 1 – 1. A pleasing result as the games are so short, there is not much chance to get back into the match if a team concedes a goal. We then consolidated our solid start to the tournament with a 1 – 0 victory over Tregoze. Joe M scored in the first minute. He took a long shot straight from the kick-off. The shot was blocked and the ball came back to Joe M who moved forward before hitting another long shot that flew into the goal. It looked as if Brook Field might run away with the game, but despite several clear attempts that saw shots hit the post, rebound off the kick and then over the bar, the team could not add to the score.

  2. “Celebrating all our steps to success” Sports Results Football – Greendown Tournament ctd Approaching our final league game of the tournament, we knew that a win would see us through to the Semi-Finals as long as the rest of results continued to go in our favour. However, the team made no mistake with a 3 – 0 victory over Oliver Tomkins. A more attacking formation led to two goals from Tom and one from Ewan W-M and made sure we had a comfortable win to see us into the semis against Westlea. The Semi-Final proved very close and Patrick made a couple of great saves before Ethan broke away one-on-one with the ‘keeper. His first shot was saved but he managed to produce a sure finish to his second shot when the ball came back to him on the rebound. Brook Field then looked to push home their advantage in the last couple of minutes. A good passing move led to a corner. Jamie Broadbank’s corner was saved but Tom was on hand to make it 2 – 0. The Final was against Millbrook and like the earlier league game in the tournament, it was a very close, hard fought match with both teams playing good football and creating several scoring opportunities that were either saved or hit the post. The Final ended 0 – 0 and the dreaded penalties loomed. And what drama!

  3. “Celebrating all our steps to success” Sports Results Football – Greendown Tournament ctd Brook Field went first and Joe’s penalty was saved. Millbrook scored. Jamie Broadbank’s and Tom’s penalties were saved but fortunately, Patrick also made two fine saves to keep Brook Field still in with a chance with the score remaining 1 – 0 to Millbrook. Ewan W-M hit a cracking penalty to level at 1 – 1 but Millbrook went straight back into the lead with their next penalty to make it 2 – 1. Ewan E stepped up to take the next Brook Field penalty and scored confidently, although he did confess afterwards that he has no sense of direction and was worried in case he missed!!! 2 – 2. The next Millbrook penalty went wide. It was now the last penalty taker from each team and sudden death! Sadly, Josh missed and there was relief all round when Patrick produced another great save. 2 – 2. This meant the goalkeepers had to take a penalty before moving onto the substitutes. Patrick stepped up and hammered home his penalty – the Millbrook ‘keeper didn’t stand a chance. Would he be able to repeat this success or would Patrick save it? Fortunately, Patrick produced another good save with his feet and Brook Field were the Winners! The team dedicated their victory to Luke as we knew how much he wanted to play in the tournament. We then discovered the Netball team had done brilliantly too and were runners-up to St Mary’s, Purton. Congratulations to both teams. The football team was; Patrick, Josh, Ewan E, Joe M, Mason, Jamie Broadbank, Ethan, Ewan W-M and Tom.
