  2. New Year background New Year is a time where families spend time together to celebrate a whole new year. Businesses are closed from the 1st of January til the 3rd.They do everything they need to do before new years as a new start to the year. New year is the most important holiday of the year and its also called shogatsu or oshogatsu.

  3. New Years Eve New Years Eve is celebrated on the 31st of December.. Nearly everyone closes their business to celebrate new Year to spend time with their family. Japanese people traditionally eat Toshikoshi Soba, which is also known as buckwheat on new year. On New years eve Japanese people watch a very popular tv show called“kohaku uta gassen” which shows famous J-pop (Japanese Pop) singers, Such as Utada Hikaru and BoA utada Hikaru

  4. New Year - Day 1 On the first day of new year, japanese people view the first sun rise also known as hatsu- hinode. They believe that watching the first sunrise of a whole new year that has just commenced. They call that day the auspicious day They have a custom of sending out new year cards which are received on January the first. They are sent to families, friends, relatives or workers.

  5. New Year - Day 2 On the 2nd day of New Year, the emperor makes a lot a appearances at Tokyo Imperial Palace. That day is one of the two days that they let people into the inner part of the palace; another day is when it’s the emperor’s birthday. The emperor and some of the families appears in class protected balcony, at certain times the emperor will come out.

More about new year Coming to Japan when its new year is a great thing because you can experience the most important hoilday but its going to be weird without all the shops or resturants opened for business. During New Year, they held a festival called Hatsumode, where everyone visits the shrines or temples. They are a varity of food stands and you can see thousands of people making wishes and buying lucky charms
