Campus Beautification ProjectThe Idea • It has been more than five years since a campus beautification had occurred at Lankershim Elementary. • The students and the community expressed a desire to improve the school environment.
Campus Beautification ProjectThe Plan • Through lessons students discussed and decided on a school need. • The students worked together and organized the event. • The student went on a school walk through to decide on which areas they would focus their beautification on.
Campus Beautification Project The Focus • Sweep around all campus buildings. • Wash walls near auditorium, and lunch pavilion. • Paint all 12 planters and 3 flower beds. • Plant in all the planters and in front of the school.
Campus Beautification ProjectThe Benefits • Improve school environment for all students, staff, and community. • The students felt a sense of pride in their school. • It would become a visual asset to the community of what was previously mentioned by a community member “a dirty eye sore”.
Campus Beautification ProjectPreparations and Promotions Students: Teachers: Organize student’s lessons Make letters to be sent home to parents Provide students with materials Phone calls to borrow tools, get donations Make purchases Organize staff, volunteers Set up refreshments • Planned where the focus areas for the clean-up using a campus map, and what they needed • Decide on what to purchase to plant flowers, soil, etc. • Donation/lender request letters • Invitation letters • Made posters and fliers • Made room to room announcements • Assembly Announcements

Campus Beautification ProjectThe Community Participates • New Directions For Youth of Los Angeles (lent the tools) • Councilmember of Los Angeles Tom LaBonge • Home Depot of North Hollywood (provided some plant donations and gardening service) • Costco Wholesale of Northridge (provided refreshment donations)
Student Learning • Organize specific needs for an event • Time management • Cooperation and collaboration with people involved in event. • Multitasking, being able to work in different areas • Flexibility ( example: in case all tools weren’t available)
