Impact of Introductory Workshop on Medical Education & Technology on Knowledge of the Participants. Introduction: • The Department of Medical education & Technology (MET), Pune, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik (MUHS), was established on 03/05/07. • It is first of its kind in the country and is funded by MUHS, Nashik. • There are 253 health science teaching institutes and over 17,000 teachers in Maharashtra. • It was felt that all these teachers were sound in their technical knowledge but none was trained formally in teaching techniques. • Objectives of the Department: • The department has been established with the objective of meeting the educational needs of various colleges affiliated to this university. • Our mission is to create awareness about medical teaching techniques in these colleges and introduce programmes for training of teachers. • To organize MET workshops on monthly basis. • To assess the short-term & long-term impact of these workshops on the participating teachers. Felt Need:- No Teaching Training Lesser Teaching Skills Lesser Gain Of Knowledge Activities: Since it’s inception, the department has conducted 6 MET workshops in 6 months and till date, 240 teachers have been trained. Discussion: Before & after each workshop, the participants are given pre & post-test questionnaire to assess the short-term impact of the workshop on their knowledge in MET. Pre and Post test results show that there was a significant improvement in the knowledge after workshop under sections of Educational Objectives (p<0.001), Teaching and Learning Processes and Methods (p<0.001); LAQ & SAQ Assessment (p<0.005); MCQ assessment (p,0.05). Positive feedback regarding the workshop was received from all the participants. In future, the department plans to conduct advanced workshops in MET and also start CME programmes in all the specialities and expand its activities further.
