Approximately 100 million young people (15 -29) in the EU: 1/5 EU citizens 1/7 young people leave school early, with only basic qualifications at best. In May 2011, youth unemployment rate 20.4% in EU27 Mean age of leaving the parental household: 27.6 for men, 25.2 for women 37% babies born outside of marriage (2006) 43% would like to set up their own business/6% have already set up their own business EU Youth Statistics 3

Nearly 50% of young people say they participate in an organisation (sport club, youth or cultural organisation). Close to 25% stated that they have participated in voluntary activities in the past year. 80% voted in elections at local, regional, national or EU level at least once in the last three years.
