WLC : An Effective NetworkKey Principles • All members are women but men may be invited too. • WLC cannot be organized without the participation of women farmers. • Maximum opportunities should be provided for women farmers to facilitate the discussions and to set the agenda for the meetings. • All participants should get opportunities to voice their opinions. • Participants should be from various agriculture and natural resource management sectors and organizations, and from diverse groups.
Advocacy Program • Continuous research and analyses of gender gaps in policy and practice • Identification of creative practices and successful innovations to overcome inequitable gender relations that create barriers for women
Steps to Organize WLC Step 1: Identifying Partners • Identify women farmers/leaders/ • Identify entrepreneurs & women policy makers/decision makers/professionals to become members • Develop a plan of action for the WLC • Identify opportunities for further engagement with policy makers. • Step 2: Policy Analysis • Identify gender gaps • Discuss strategies for effective implementation of policies • Develop action plan for advocacy.
HOW DOES WOCAN CARRY OUT ITS MISSION • WOCAN’s approach is to link rural women with professional women and men • Create synergies to stimulate change in the way organizations develop their policies and programs • Bridge the need for and availability for funds • Support the main goals, WOCAN undertakes knowledge generation/sharing and networking activities
HOW DOES WOCAN CARRY OUT ITSMISSION (Continued) • Training courses in capacity development • Programs processing and development • Expansion of membership base through an interactive website (www.wocan.org) designed to encourage member-to-member communication
PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATION TO THE STUDY VISIT GROUP WOCAN is a network of women leaders. They could be policy makers and they could community leaders. You are a leader. You could be a member, receive up-to-date news on gender development community, including vacancy announcements. You could participate in on-line discussions and live streaming events.
