  2. Physical Education/Fitness Curriculum Units and Activities: FITNESS AND SKILL TESTING TEAM BUILDING TEAM SPORTS DUAL/INDIVIDUAL SPORTS DANCE/YOGA FITNESS/WEIGHT ROOM HEALTH AND WELLNESS LIFETIME ACTIVITY

  3. Physical Education Class Expectations… Enter the Gym… but before you do… Make sure you have your PE clothes and any other items you need for class. We do notwrite hall passes! Check the small whiteboard next to the girls locker room for todays agenda.

LOCKER ROOMS: Youare a guestin the locker room and are borrowing a lock and locker from us…it is yourresponsibilityto take care of your clothes and personal items. 6th Graders and 8th period students can place their backpacks and large coats in the blue bins inside the locker rooms. Remember that all classes are on a different schedule so you need to be sure your items are locked up. The locker room is a place to dress out, use the restroom and lock up your stuff, nothing else. You have 5 minutes. Walk into the locker room Get dressed into your PE clothes Lock your locker Use the restroom Go to your class meeting place.

  5. Fitness and/or Assessment Days Health lessons will include topics related to fitness, health, wellness, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, decision making and other age appropriate topics. Health lessons will be incorporated into units when appropriate. Fitness testing will include Fitnessgram and tests in Health Related Fitness and Skill/Sport Related Fitness Components. Performance testing within a unit of study Quizzes to demonstrate knowledge and understanding within a unit.

  6. What if I am absent? If you are absent you may complete a make up assignment to receive work habits points for that day. Otherwise you receive zero points for the day. You have one week to turn it in. You can write a 3 paragraph summary to an article about health, physical education or sports from a magazine, newspaper or internet article for each day absent and receive full credit. Forms can be picked up outside either of the PE offices.

  7. Physical Education Norms: • Did you come to class emotionally, mentally and physically prepared? • Did you work to your potential? • Did you encourage someone else? • Did you participate and were you engaged? • Did you have fun?

  8. Let’s talk about safety around the gym… While we are not using the climbing wall, please stay off the holds and the mat and keep your feet on the ground. The black mats will save you if you run into the wall…do not hang on them or show your friends that you can run up the wall…thanks  Please do not dunk or jump to touch the nets. It is for your safety, you could lose a finger or be injured. The poles are to used to hold up nets for games or activities. Please stay off them…

Safety continued • The bleachers are for sitting on when they are out ….DO NOT climb or sit on them while they are closed! • The curtain and the wrestling mats are used for instruction and athletics. Please leave them alone so they aren’t ruined. • Never open or close doors without teacher permission

SR2 in PE Locker Rooms Safe – report unsafe conditions -use lockers and benches safely -be in locker room only during assigned time Respectful – use assigned locker only -give others privacy -keep hands and feet to self -use appropriate language Responsible – memorize your locker combination and keep it confidential -clean up after yourself -store belongings in your locker

SR2 in PE continued Safe – keep hands and feet to self -use furniture supplies and equipment appropriately -report conflicts/unsafe behavior to teacher -store backpacks properly Respectful – be kind and courteous to all -listen when others talk -accept others’ differences and opinions -follow directions -use/touch only items that belong to you to you. Responsible – be on time -have supplies -complete assignments and turn in assignments on time -take care of books, supplies and other materials

Work Habits Grade 4 = Always 3 = Consistently 2 = Sometimes 1 = Rarely 0 = Never *Based on dressing out, participation, attitude, effort, behavior and attendance. Standards Grade A = Advanced P = Proficient PP = Partially Proficient U = Unsatisfactory N = No Evidence *Based on student demonstration and knowledge and understanding of standards

National PE Standards • Standard #1-The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. • Standard #2-The physically literate individual appliesknowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance. • Standard #3-The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness. • Standard #4- The physically literate individual exhibitsresponsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others. • Standard #5-The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.

  14. What happens if I don’t dress out??? Dressing out means that you have taken off your school clothes and put on your PE shirt, black athletic shorts and athletic socks and shoes. • If you are missing any part or all of the uniform you are not dressed out • If non dresses become excessive, the teacher may call homeand/or refer the behavior to a dean for further consequences • Shirts should be tucked in or left to hang, no tying of shirts **Note** Dressing out is part of the Work Habits grade, not the standards grade

  15. The Key to Success in Mrachek PE is very simple…just do the following things: • Be on time. • Dress out. • Actively participate in all of class • Show respect for equipment and others. • Have fun. Yes, it is that simple.
