  1. Romans 11:25-32 Repentant Israel to Be Saved A reminder of the3 basic principles of ‘the remnant’ 1. The physical remnant – the continuity of the ethnic line of Israel and His promises to the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob) – Gen 12:1,2; Gen 26:24, 35: Gen 35:10-12 2. The spiritual remnant – salvation is by faith, and thus God will always maintain or raise up a believing remnant within the physical remnant – Rom 9:6,7 3. All Israelwill be saved – during/following the Great Tribulation, those who survive will be saved by faith – the 1000 year reign – Zech 13:8,9. 1 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  2. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved • Rom 11:25NKJV - “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” • What is the caution here? • Reflect back on Rom 11:18 • Blindness here best translated as ‘hardness’ • The big sin of unbelief! • II Cor 3:14 ‘But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.’ • Rom 11:7-10 • What is the fullness of the Gentiles? • Best translated here by ‘abundance’ • Luke 21:24 – ‘And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.’ 2 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  3. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved • So is the fullness of the Gentiles the rapture, or another time in the history of the Gentile nations? • How about post at the end of the tribulation? • Or, at the end of the 1000 years? • Zech 12-14 → → Armageddon →→ • Zech 12:10 - "And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. • Define mystery - mystērion! • Something concealed - now revealed. • In context here? • Other examples • The Gospel – I Cor 2:6-16 • Christ Himself – I Tim 3:16 • The Church – Eph 5:32 • The Rapture – I Cor 15:51 • Being ignorant of the mysteries of God – a challenge to us? 3 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  4. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved • Rom 11:26,27 NKJV – “And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; Forthisis My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.” • Isaiah 59:20,21 – ‘And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord. As for me, this [is] my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that [is] upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.’ • Notice, all (not some) will be saved – God’s sovereignty! • What ‘all’ are we discussing here? • Those Jews coming out of the Great Tribulation – Matt 24:13,14 • Same for Gentiles (sheep and goats) – Matt 25:31-46 4 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  5. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved • Notice passive verb ‘be saved’. • See Isaiah 45:17; Jer 3:17-23, 32:37-41; Ezek 34:22-31, 37:21-28, 39:25-29; Hos 3:5; Amos 9:13-15; Mic 7:15-20; Zeph 3:12-20; Zech 10:6-12 • Is active faith involved here? • What is this ‘ungodliness in Jacob’? • Relates to all works of ungodliness – thoughts, deeds • What about Zion? • All the glorious manifestations of Israel's God were regarded as being issued out of Zion - the seat of His manifested glory - Psalms 14:7, 110:1,2; Isaiah 31:9 – 32:1 • The New Covenant - Jer 31:31-34 ‘Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah - not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on 5 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  6. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, `Know the Lord, for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more’ • Also see Jer 32:38-40, Jer 50:20; Ezek 36:25-29; Heb 8:8-12, 10:16 • What about those born during the 1000 years, will they have the law placed in their minds and written in their hearts too? • Rom 11:28,29 NKJV ‘Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.’ • Why are they(the nation of Israel) enemies for your (our) sakes? • But look at Israel – beloved for the fathers’ (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob) sakes 6 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  7. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved • They are elected (Isaiah 41:8,9; Rom 9:4) and beloved • but remember, this always relates to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ – Eph 1:4,5 • Is there any room for anti-Semitism? • How about these gifts? • Here gift best relates to the divine gift of Grace • Rom 5:15 ‘But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.’ • Without repentance? • God has no 2nd thoughts! – Malachi 3:6; II Cor 7:10 • Rom 11:30,31 NKJV‘For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy.’ 7 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel

  8. Romans 11:16-24 Repentant Israel to Be Saved • We Gentile believers who were disobedient to God (Rom 1:18-32; Eph 2:1,2) – divinemercy was shown to them (us) and through them (us) to the nation of Israel who will receive mercy (Rom 11:11-19; II Cor 3:15,16) • Notice how were reflects our position • Rom 11:32 NKJV – ‘For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.’ • Gal 3:22 ‘But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.’ Calvary - the great equalizer!!!!!! Stay tuned for Rom 11:33-36 next week – the sweet Benediction 8 May 27, 2007 Bob Eckel
