  2. Bell Ringer (Tue.) 4-22-2014 Compromise of 1850: • California entered as a free state • Slavery issue to be decided by popular sovereignty in Utah and New Mexico Territories • New, Stricter Fugitive Slave Act • Slave trade but NOT slavery ended in Washington D.C.

  3. Bell Ringer (Fri.) 4-25-2014 Lincoln’s View on spreading of slavery: • He felt that the federal government, Congress, should stop the spread of slavery to the new states/territories. • He is quoted as saying, “So I say in relation to the principle that all men are created equal, let it be as nearly reached as we can. If we cannot give freedom to every creature, let us do nothing that shall impose slavery upon any other creature.”
