VHS graduation: course requirements • 4 years English • 3 years History: Wld history, US History, Econ and Government. • 1 year Biology (lab) and 1 year Physical Science (lab) • 3 years of math: Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry • 2 years P.E. • Life Skills and Health • 2 years Foreign Language • 2 semesters of a visual/performing art • 2 semesters of a technical art • 1 year more of an advanced course (G requirement)
VHS graduation: additional requirements • You must pass both sections of the CAHSEE with a score of 350 • You must accrue 230 credits for all coursework • You must demonstrate computer literacy • You will complete a service learning project
To participate in VHS graduation ceremonies • You must complete 10 hours of community service for each year you have attended Venice High School • You must complete a Senior Portfolio in the 12th grade

How to get academic help • Beyond the Bell: is available to VHS students who need help preparing for the CAHSEE. See Mrs. Azzi in room 213. • Xinachtli is tutoring help by college students available on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room 124 from 3:15 to 5:30. • Venice Study Lounge is tutoring help Mondays through Thursdays in the library from 3:15 to 4:30.
Grades and Credit • “D” grades = 5.0 credits: Students earn credit for high school graduation. A “D” grade will not count for college admission. • “F” grades = 0.0 credits: If you fail a required course such as English, math or history, you must make it up in summer school.
What is the CAHSEE? • CAHSEE stands for California High School Exit Exam. • 1 section math • 1 section English • If either math or English is passed with a score of 350, that section will not have to be taken again. • If either math or English is not passed, there will be multiple chances to retake. • Both sections must be passed to receive diploma
Academic eligibility requirements for sports activities • Students must earn a 2.0 grade point average by the ten week report card. • Students must have a physical clearance by the school nurse. • Students must have health insurance or obtain a school-issued insurance. • Students must follow CIA regulations regarding drug use and steroids.
Honor Society • Delphians: Eligibility for this honor is based upon grade point average in specific classes. • Students can join Delphians in the fall semester of their tenth grade year. • See Mrs. Reyes in the College Center.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed in high school. • VHS counselors can make referrals to on-campus counseling groups. We have groups for many issues including depression, anger, drug dependency, and social skills. • Counselors can make referrals for individual counseling as well. • Informational pamphlets are available in the counseling office on a wide variety of common teen issues.
We are here to help • The mission of the Venice High School counseling department is to provide a comprehensive and developmental counseling program. We strive to promote student success through a focus on academic achievement, social and emotional growth, prevention and intervention activities, advocacy, and career development.
