  2. What is ATP? • ATP: • Energy used by all organisms • ATP = Adenosine Tri-phosphate • Organic Molecule containing sugar, phosphate and a nitrogen base

  3. What does ATP do for you? ATP supplies YOU with energy!! Mrs. Collum!!

  4. What does ATP look like? • Nitrogen base • Sugar • 3 Phosphates

  5. How do we get energy? • By breaking the high-energy bonds between the last two phosphates in ATP • When a bond is broken energy is given off, a phosphate is removed • When the phosphate is released from ATP the molecule changes to ADP

  6. Bond with Energy!!

  7. Bonds: • Bonds are broken by Hydrolysis • Bonds are created by Dehydration Synthesis

  8. When is ATP made in the Body? • During a process called cellular respiration • CR takes place in both plants and animals!! • Includes Biochemical Pathways that require O2.
