  3. INTRODUCTION • Greater Antilles: Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. Lesser Antilles: Bahamas, Virgin Islands, etc. • The Caribbean’s culture has historically been influenced by European culture (British, Spanish, and French). • Now, It’s being influenced linguistic, economic, and culturally by theUnitedStates. • Official symbols of Caribbean include the parrot, palm, and the shell.

  14. LOCAL HOLIDAYS Christmas traditions have their roots in Catholicism. “Nacimientos” are very popular all over the country as well as in any other hispanic countries. The difference is the food they prepare: cooked green bananas, mashed plantains or yucca filled with meat and other vegetables, arroz con dulce, and “tembleque”. The most famous drink are Rum and Coquito.

  16. MUSIC One of Puerto Rico's notable exports is its music, which is probably the predominant Caribbean music heard in the United  States. The traditional musical instruments used by Puerto Ricans come from the Taino people. The güicharo, therequinto, thebordonua, thecuatro, and thetriple, tambor, and maracas are popular.
