Spellings • During Autumn 1, we will work on consolidating spelling patterns taught in the children’s previous year. • After this, we will be teaching one unit from our Read Write Inc spelling programme. • Children will record the spellings that they need to practise in a log book.
Reading • In years 3 & 4 we encourage children to read as often as possible, at least three times per week. • Reading at home recorded in a reading record and this is monitored in school on a daily basis.
Home Learning Home learning is set weekly, except for the first and final week of term. It is set on a Thursday and is to be handed in on a Tuesday. Children will record their weekly homework in their home learning books. Home learning will consist of one English and one maths task each week, alongside children’s regular practice of times tables, spellings and reading.
Helping to promote children’s wellbeing ‘Change your words, change your mindset.’ • Overcoming challenges in our learning allows us to ‘grow’ our brains – the more we do something, the stronger the connections between neurons in our brains become. A ‘Can-Do’ attitude is essential! ‘Yet’ is our magic word.

E-SAFETY AT HOME What is the concern? • Keeping safe on-line is a growing concern for adults and children. • Technology is part and parcel of our everyday lives. • Technology is now mobile (tablets, smart phones etc.) • Research shows that mobile technology is monitored less frequently at home than static devices such as a desktop computer. • Annual Ofcom report and CEOP (Child Exploitation and On-line Protection agency) tells us that the number of cases of serious e-safety issues reported is increasing in primary aged children. • Research shows that a significant number of children understand the dangers of using the internet but often forget these messages when at home.
WORKING TOGETHER At Home Reinforce the messages shared through the acceptable use agreements. Monitor what your child is viewing on the internet and have open discussions about who they are communicating with. Set clear boundaries regarding who they can communicate with (i.e. only people that they know in the real world) and how much time that they spend on the computer or tablet. At School • Safe and responsible use of the internet at the heart of the school’s robust scheme of work. • Clear expectations are set through the school’s e-safety policy and acceptable use agreements. • E-safety issues are taken seriously and are monitored to inform the computing curriculum. • Opportunities for teaching about e-safety issues are identified in other areas of the curriculum. Please remember to send your Home-School Agreements in!
Further advice… • View the school’s website to access key information regarding e-safety. See the parent’s section. • You will find a PDF of the full e-safety policy. • On the website there are some useful tips and factsheets to download. • Some useful sites: - parentzone.org.uk - thinkyouknow.co.uk/parents
